ONE

This proposal was presented at the US Consulate office in Mumbai and won the second position at the Youth Innovation Challenge, sponsored by the UN-Habitat and got published on the World Urban Forum website.

ONE’ is a project that departs from the social debates revolving around the transgender community and their access to a basic need of public restrooms. The project acts as a gender-neutral public restroom and takes into consideration the urgent need of designing safe, sustainable, and inclusive restrooms for all genders, religions, races, and disabled. A public restroom is a public space that strongly differentiates between different gender groups. As a result of a neutral restroom, the fear of transgenders being looked at in a not so appropriate way gets completely eliminated making it a safe and inclusive public space for all.

The public restroom prototype can be replicated/modified in size and installed in any city around the world, mainly in public gathering spaces. The main idea is to create awareness and eradicate the stigma which has been differentiating the transgender community from the others. The project acts as a gender-neutral public restroom and takes into consideration the urgent need of designing safe, sustainable, and inclusive restrooms for all genders, religions, races, and disabled.
